Marc is fixated on learning to climb stairs. It’s been his biggest goal since starting physio because our house has stairs and he knows he can’t safely come home until he can climb them. Stairs represent freedom to Marc.
Imagine his surprise this afternoon when Catherine took him into the library at the hospital.
The stairs from another perspective:
At the end of last week, Marc said his goal for this week was to do stairs. He was cautioned him that it was too soon but that when the time was right, it would happen.
Marc has worked non-stop on his foot exercises this past week, strengthening his left ankle in order to gain the control over it that is necessary to walk safely and correctly. It wasn’t exciting work but Marc never complained. He just did what needed to be done without any prompting.
Today Marc made his first ascent up a small flight of stairs. Most importantly, he made his own goal for this week and he made that goal before any of us thought it was possible.
If stairs equal freedom, then Marc is well on his way.
This is just amazing news, Sandy. We are all cheering for Marc in a huge way (my family, my partner Mark, and me)!!! He is a huge inspiration!!! Keep it up!!! So much love!
